This hotel is drop dead gorgeous. The rooms are beautiful also and are spacious and include a full sized bath in the bathroom. We had the breakfast included, which I recommend for anyone visiting Japan. Breakfast cafes as we are used to aren't a thing in Japan and nothing really opens until lunchtime unless you want a cake and coffee from a coffee chain. The hotel breakfast was very nice and they had an espresso machine for very good coffee. You choose an item from the cooked menu and then you can also help yourself to the buffet, so it was easy to have a substantial breakfast before tackling your day. The hotel is well located next to Kyoto station. Kyoto station is huge, so as I'd seen in a previous review, we couldn't find our way to the hotel when we first arrived and had to catch a taxi, but once we knew it is literally 50 metres away! Recommend the hotel maybe advising guests which exit to use at the station so they can find their way more easily. We were told when we checked in, possibly incorrectly (?) at check in that reservations weren't required at the two restaurants in the hotel. We tried to get a table without a reservation but were unable to eat here. There are several restaurants, one very good one we visited several times during our four night stay, nearby - we found we needed to eat early to get a table though, around 5.30-6pm. We also would have liked to use the spa, but it was booked out, suggest if you want a booking at the spa that you make it when you make your accommodation reservation.

We had a lovely stay at this centrally located hotel. I am an exceptionally fussy traveller with high expectations. We toyed with the idea of staying out of the the very central part of the city (which we may do next time, our pick will be the Four Seasons or Park Hyatt) but being our first time in Kyoto, we wanted to be centrally located. We stayed in a suite, with traditional Tatami mats & futon (although regular beds were in the room too). The attention to detail from a design perspective in the suite was excellent. It was thoughtfully curated. We had a lovely outlook on to our own private garden. I will miss the Japanese Maples. Despite being close to Kyoto station, we felt we were in our own sanctuary. While most of the staff were very helpful, and the room serviced daily to an exceptional standard, a very special mention must be given to The Thousand's most fabulous employee, Ai. Ai was there to greet us daily, assisted with our room upgrade on arrival (to a suite) and even walked us to the Shinkansen on departure. The Thousand should feel very lucky to have such a professional working for them. She really made our stay memorable. The breakfast was lovely with an option of Western or Japanese (with numerous courses), the atmosphere and service was good. The only disappointing aspect of the stay was the food at Scalae. The food was under par for the prices. Similarly, the food options at the Tea and Bar were quite limited, took far too long to arrive and the bar lacked atmosphere.

The hotel enjoys an exceptional location, conveniently situated within a 3-minute walk from Kyoto station. As you step inside, you'll be enthralled by the artistic ambiance reminiscent of a gallery. The rooms truly stand out with their impressive spaciousness, setting them apart from the typical compact accommodations found in Japan. What caught my attention in particular was the thoughtfully designed bathroom, featuring a hook and a bar on the glass door for effortless clothes-changing. Moreover, the dedicated shoe removal area near the entrance and the plush carpeting throughout add to the overall charm of the place. Furthermore, it's worth mentioning that the room boasts an exceptionally large and luxurious super single bed. With ample space and utmost comfort, it ensures a restful and rejuvenating night's sleep.

We loved everything. For some reason, even with the great, modern design of the room, it also managed to feel cosy and like being at home, not just a stylish hotel room. The staff were very pleasant and the lobby magnificent. We also loved the air quality in the room. Hotels often feel make me feel a little unwell due to artificial air conditioning, but this hotel didn’t give me that problem at all. The position, two minutes walk from Kyoto station was fantastic. The hotel itself felt like an oasis of calm to come back to, but being able to get everywhere in Kyoto quickly by train and also on bullet trains quickly, saved us so much time. The station itself is also great for dining options. This was one of my favourite hotel rooms in years.

This hotel is truly amazing and 5 star. Very luxurious, very modern and spacious rooms equipped with all sort of comfort and facilities which is what you would expect from a 5 stars. The location is literally next to Kyoto train station which was absolutely convenient in addition to many shops around. The breakfast was absolute delicious with great variety (they had a Japanese Resturant for Japanese’s style breakfast and international style). They were very accommodating to our toddler which was very courteous. Highly recommended if you are visiting Kyoto for few days and want a combination of luxury, comfort, location and great breakfast.
